Emanual Beck (Manuel above) appears in the 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1900 census. He lists his and both his parents birthplace as Switzerland. In the 1900 census, it states that he emigrated in 1839 and had been a resident of the U.S. for 60 years.
Darin Wernig writes:
My 4xGrand Grandfather was Alois Beck. He was a doctor who moved to Jefferson County in the 1830's from Switzerland. He died sometime in late August or early September of 1854. I found this by looking at his probate records, but was surprised there was no info on an exact date of death and place of burial. His son Emanual eventually accumulated about 156 acres of land around 61/67 and Telegraph and once owned the Old House which was once across the street from old Boemler Chevrolet and is now in Kimmswick. Alois Beck’s wife was Farena (Bolzer or Balser) Both had died by 1860.
